LANSING – State Representative Mark Meadows (D-East Lansing) today announced the first winner of the 69th District Citizenship Award. The monthly award is given to high school students who attend Haslett, East Lansing, Okemos and Williamston high schools and who exhibit strong leadership within their schools and in their communities. In addition to recognizing the student's achievements, the award provides a $100 donation to the school district's Education Foundation in the name of the honoree.
"The students of today are the workers and leaders of tomorrow," Meadows said. "High school students in our community who are outstanding leaders in both their schools and in their communities should be commended for that leadership. I hope this award serves as a recognition of excellence."
Meadows announced that Ariel Timm, a senior at Haslett High School, is the first recipient of the award. Ariel is the daughter of Linda and Tobias Timm of Haslett. Ariel is involved with the National Honor Society, numerous other school based and community activities and has been hailed as a leader and role model for students and other members of her community.
"Ariel Timm is the perfect example of a promising young citizen," Meadows said. "I am pleased and honored to award her with the 69th District Citizenship Award. As we move Michigan into the 21st century global economy, we need bright young students like Ariel to help get Michigan moving in the right direction."
