LANSING – State Representative Mark Meadows (D-East Lansing) today announced the winners of the 69th District Citizenship Award for October. The monthly award is given to local high school students who exhibit strong leadership within their schools and in their communities; demonstrate a mutual respect for others in the school community; and exemplify hard work and responsibility in their school performance.
"I want to congratulate the winners this month for their dedication and activism in our community," Meadows said. "Their successes – both in and out of the classroom – are a shining example to their classmates and others. Michigan is a stronger, better state when we have students like these paving the way for a brighter future."
In addition to being recognized for their achievements, each honoree will have $100 donated to the educational fund in their school district. The winners are:
- Chad Rhiness of Williamston High School, son of George Rhiness and Bonnie Putnam. Chad is a recipient of the MHSAA Academic All-State Award, a National Honor Society (NHS) member, and a 4.0 GPA student.
- Meghan Gifford of Haslett High School, daughter of Robert Gifford and Christine Coady. Meghan is a National Merit Scholarship Program semi-finalist, an NHS member and a kindergarten volunteer.
- Lillian Ramos of East Lansing High School, daughter of Elizabeth and Jorge Ramos. Lillian is a member of Raza Unida, an advanced placement European History student, and is involved in creative writing.
- Kelly Conlon of Okemos High School, daughter of Donald and Karin Conlon. Kelly is an NHS member, a Relay for Life participant, and a volunteer with Kids in Action.
