LANSING – State Representative Mark Meadows (D-East Lansing) today was named Vice Chair of the House Labor Committee for the 94th Legislature, which is making job creation, reducing the cost of health care and expanding educational opportunities its top priorities
"Labor is the backbone of our state," Meadows said. "I'm honored to have the opportunity to fight for our men and women in labor and look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to move Michigan's economy forward."
Meadows also will serve on the Great Lakes and Environment Committee; Intergovernmental, Urban and Regional Affairs Committee; Judiciary Committee; and the Regulatory Reform Committee.
Meadows was appointed as an Assistant Attorney General in 1975, served for 27 years, making him uniquely qualified to serve on the Judiciary Committee. His tenure with the City of East Lansing as Council member for 11 years and Mayor for eight years further solidifies him as a key member of the Intergovernmental, Urban and Regional Affairs Committee, and his work on East Lansing's recycling, landfill cleanup, and wetland protection will be a boost to the Great Lakes and Environment Committee.
House Democrats' priorities include:
- Creating and protecting good-paying jobs.
- Fighting the skyrocketing cost of health care.
- Strengthening schools and opening the doors of educational opportunities for all citizens.
- Addressing Michigan's energy needs.
- Protecting Michigan's Great Lakes, and fighting Canadian and out-of-state trash.
- Strengthening consumer protections.
- Restoring integrity to the House by beefing up ethics standards.
